After Al Nassr’s 4-1 loss to Al Hilal in the Saudi Super Cup on Saturday, Cristiano Ronaldo is still waiting for his first domestic prize in Saudi Arabia.
Just before halftime in the season’s inaugural match between Saudi Pro League winners Al Hilal and runners-up Al Nassr, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner scored the game’s first goal.
The 39-year-old forward, though, seemed agitated after Al Hilal scored four goals in the second half within a 17-minute period.
Ronaldo, who signed with Al Nassr in December 2022 and scored 35 goals in the previous season, scored in the 44th minute from close range after being thrownHowever, in the second half, Al Hilal’s Serbian pair was the difference, and it was all one-way traffic.
Ten minutes after the half ended, Al Nassr’s midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic opened the score with a powerful shot into Abdulrahman Ghareeb’s net after exchanging passes with Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Al Hilal is still the most successful team in the league, having won three titles ahead of Al Nassr and having won the Super Cup for the fifth and second consecutive year.
It was a story that Ronaldo and Al Nassr knew well, since Al Hilal had beaten them in the Saudi King’s Cup and the Saudi Pro League final the year before.
Thursday’s match between Al Nassr and Al Raed will mark the start of the new Saudi Pro League season.
