Star Wars fans can look forward to numerous exciting upcoming games, including narrative adventures from Quantic Dream and the first open-world experience from Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment. The lineup spans various genres and spans the Star Wars timeline. Following the release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, 2023 promises more exciting games in 2024 and beyond. The release date for Star Wars Outlaws has been officially revealed, and an untitled Star Wars FPS game from Respawn has been canceled due to numerous layoffs this year. The lineup includes narrative adventures, open-world experiences, and more projects set in the Star Wars universe.
Star Wars Outlaws
Ubisoft Massive, the studio behind The Division and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, has unveiled Star Wars Outlaws at the Xbox Games Showcase 2023. The open-world game, set to release in 2024, features a grimmer look at the Galaxy Far, Far Away and appears to be set during the original trilogy. A full gameplay preview will be available at Ubisoft Forward 2023 on June 12.
Star Wars: Hunters
Hunters is a new team-based multiplayer game set after the fall of the Galactic Empire, developed by Zynga and Lucasfilm Games. The game features a cast of new characters, including Rebels, Stormtroopers, and bounty hunters, who join squads and engage in multiplayer battles in iconic Star Wars locations. A panel at the Star Wars Celebration 2022 event revealed that each character will have backstories and set dynamics with other characters. The game was originally set to launch in 2022 but has been delayed.
Respawn’s Star Wars strategy game
Respawn has announced a Star Wars strategy game that is being developed through a “production collaboration” with Bit Reactor. Respawn will produce the project, while Bit Reactor leads its development. The new studio, led by veteran developer Greg Foertsch, has worked at Firaxis on the Civilization series. The release date for the game is still unknown, as little information has been revealed about the project.
Star Wars: Eclipse
Star Wars Eclipse, an action-adventure game developed by Quantic Dream and Lucasfilm Games, is set in the High Republic Era in an uncharted region of the Outer Rim. The game features an ensemble cast of playable characters with unique personalities and motivations, each impacting the adventure. Initially announced at the Game Awards 2021, it is still in the early stages of development and is expected to be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game’s release is expected to be a branching narrative.
Knights of the Old Republic remake
The Knights of the Old Republic remake is set to release on PS5 and PC, featuring a revamped Darth Raven, a customizable protagonist from the original game. The project, developed by Aspyr and Lucasfilm Games, has been delayed indefinitely, with only a brief teaser revealed so far. The original game from BioWare allowed players to choose from nine customizable characters, offering plenty of choice and freedom. As we await an update on the game’s development, we can’t help but wonder how it might shape up.
Amy Hennig’s Star Wars game
Skydance New Media is developing an untitled Star Wars game in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. Veteran writer and director Amy Hennig will lead the project, known for works like Uncharted, Jak, and Daxter. The narrative-driven action-adventure game could potentially be a revival of a previous Star Wars project that was ultimately shuttered. A leak suggests it may bring back Project Ratag, a Rebel Alliance game developed at EA Studio Visceral. Although the project is still unconfirmed, it is expected to be a long way off.
